Why So Many Wichita Kitchens Are Going Quartz
Quartz countertops are made from crushed natural quartz mixed with resin and pigment, pressed into slabs and cured. The result is a non-porous surface that does not need sealing, resists staining from coffee, wine and oil, and looks the same in the slab as in the sample. That predictability makes quartz a common starting point, whether they are updating a 1960s ranch kitchen or finishing a new build.
Where quartz works well, and where it does not
Quartz handles daily kitchen use well: cutting boards, spills, kids and cleaning sprays. Two limits are worth knowing. The resin can scorch or discolor under a very hot pan, so use a trivet next to the range. And quartz is not meant for outdoor kitchens in direct sun, since UV can fade the color over time. For a covered patio or a grill station, natural stone is usually the better pick.
Choosing a color and pattern
Quartz runs from solid whites and grays to designs that imitate Calacatta and Carrara marble, concrete and speckled granite. Veined designs need more planning: veins should line up across a seam or run in a deliberate direction on an island. We lay out the pieces on the slab before fabrication and show you where seams will fall. Thickness matters too: 3 cm tops are common and usually need no plywood underlayment, while thinner material may need support.
Grades and brands
Manufacturers sell quartz in grades, and price follows the grade and design more than the brand name. HomeGuide lists installed quartz at about $50 to $95 per square foot for second-choice or builder grade, $75 to $110 for commercial grade, and $90 to $200 for first-choice and premium designs. Brand ranges it lists include Caesarstone at $50 to $100 and Cambria at $60 to $125 installed. Extra cutouts, mitered edges and full-height backsplashes add to the total.
Fitting quartz to older cabinets
A quartz top is heavy and rigid. In older Wichita homes, base cabinets have often been in place for 40 to 70 years, and floors and walls have settled. Before we template, we check that the cabinets are level, solid and dry under the sink, and we shim where needed. The template then captures the real shape of the walls so the backsplash line is tight without forcing the stone.
Caring for quartz
Daily cleaning is warm water and mild dish soap. Avoid harsh abrasives, oven cleaner and bleach left to sit on the surface. There is no sealing schedule. Manufacturers typically offer their own product warranties on quartz slabs, with terms that vary by brand and often depend on approved fabrication and installation; ask us which brand you are looking at and we will point you to its terms.

How It Works
1. Estimate
We look at your cabinets, layout and sink, and go over colors and edges.
2. Template
Once cabinets are set and level, we take an exact template.
3. Fabricate
Pieces are cut to the template with sink and faucet holes, after you approve the layout.
4. Install
We set, level and seam the tops, mount the sink and reconnect the plumbing.

Quartz Countertops Questions
Is quartz better than granite?
Neither is better for everyone. Quartz needs no sealing and has consistent color; granite is natural stone with unique patterns and better heat tolerance. Budget, look and how you cook usually decide it.
Does quartz stain or scratch?
Quartz resists most stains because it is non-porous. It is hard but not scratch-proof, so use a cutting board. Strong chemicals and very hot pans are the main risks.
Can I put a hot pan on quartz?
It is better not to. The resin in quartz can scorch or discolor from direct high heat. Keep a trivet or hot pad by the stove.
How much does a quartz kitchen cost in Wichita?
National guides put an average 30 to 40 square foot quartz kitchen at about $1,500 to $8,000 installed, depending on grade. We give you a written price after measuring your kitchen.
